Filming with CNN in Deira
I recently finished filming with CNN in and around Deira for some short films about the area. These will be broadcast on CNN internationally.
Filming in the Spice and Gold souq's while its over 40°C is not comfortable, and the fish market at 5am was a challenge on the senses.
I've mainly been recording ambience for the films, and decided to use my new recorder. I just got the Sony PCM-D100 and its excellent. The sound and the stero image it produces is fantastic. It's also much less intrusive when walking around the narrow alleys of the souq's. People pay a little less attention to the small recorder.

Filming in RAK mountains
Today was a fun day filming in the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah in the North of the UAE.
We were filming with the new Lexus RC F sports car, and what a car it is!
Lots of sounds recorded and some interior sounds of the driver and passenger.
Here is a pic of my new WisyCom radios in the sun visor:
I can't put any other pictures up yet but I should be able to do so in a week or so.
All in all a fun day.
WisyCom Radios have finally arrived!!
A few days ago I took delivery of 4 channels of WisyCom radios.
- 2x MCR42 Receivers
- 2x MTP40s Transmitters
- 2x MTP41 Transmitters
I have had them out on a couple of jobs and so far they have been incredible, great quality sound, and very easy to use.
I bought two DPA 4060 mics with them so i've mainly been using these as the mics, but I have now put the Lemo connectors on my COS11's so i've tested these as well, and they also sound amazing.
What I found the most incredible was their very low self noise, as in there is none!! I have the main receiver sending an AES3 signal into my Sound Devices 633 and it's silent, no hiss at all. Totally blew me away. Sadly there is only 1 AES3 input on the mixer to the other receiver will have to be Line level, but even that is silent as well.
Very very happy with them, and I hope that they will last me many years!!
WisyCom Radios arriving soon at CarbideSound
WisyCom radios will soon be the new additions to the Carbide Sound kit.
After a lot of research and waiting I have decided to upgrade to WisyCom radios for my kit. I was intending to go for Lectrosonics but after reading reviews and chatting to a number of other sound recordists in Europe I think that the WisyCom radios are the best choice.
This is the kit i'm getting.

Once the systems have arrived I will be reviewing them so keep an eye out for more info.
Idents for Channel 4 UK
I recently finished working with Channel 4 from the UK.
They were here making Idents for Channel 4 Racing shows which should begin around June time.
They were a great crew and we all had a lot of fun working with them. We were filming all over Dubai and out in the desert. Saw a few places I had not been before and some others I didn't even know existed.
No pictures for now but will post if I can in the future.
